Step 1

Wasting my life

Baby crying

Crowd

spooky

I was trying to find something to make this blog about when I just happened across the boy saying “I’m wasting my life.” I think I was looking for ‘life’ or something very general. I’m feeling a little mean and spiteful today because of my mother so I decided to make my song about the trash my mother is telling my sisters. I plan on moving out soon with my boyfriend and for some reason my mom thinks I am going to drop out of school, get pregnant and waste the rest of my life working at wal-mart. She told me I have given up on my dream of going to grad school because I am moving out.

I picked the first sound bite, I’m wasting my life, because I liked the way it sounded and it is her favorite thing to say. The baby crying is because she thinks I’m going to get pregnant. The third is because all she is saying is background noise to me, I know I haven’t given up on my dreams, I have just happened to fall in love while working on them. The last sound bite is spooky horror film music because she thinks my life is going to come to a tragic end like when this music starts to play in horror films.

I loved the little boy. A very big thing to say but he says it with such childhood a innocence. --Crystal

That's insane (the first sample)! - Cory

Step 2

For step two I picked Crystal's rain forest. I thought the sound was beautiful from the start. I did enjoy Brian's thunder. He is right, there is almost nothing better than being safe and warm when a storm is working it's magic outside. So I tried not to change it much but add to the complexity of the sound. When I think of a rain forest, I think of a place that is so full of life that sounds just compound onto one another. When I close my eyes, I can see the rain forest.

I also decided to play with Stephens sounds. I really like how it turned out. I kept the first two of his three sounds. I kept Brian's sound and added some low chimes. The third sound he had there originally seemed harsh where the rest of them didn't. I think the low chimes mellowed the whole sound out and now it sounds like it sould be playing as background music in some new age coffee shop..... or something.
