I feel like I'm not properly equipped with the language to intelligently discuss music but I'm going to make an honest effort. I fell in love with this song a couple years ago when I heard 311's remake. This song has a special meaning for me. This was my ex-boyfriend and I's song, and somehow I feel as though it still holds true. We can't be together but he is still one of my closest friends and always will be. That being said, I wasn't familiar with the original. After listening to the original, I think 311 did it better. The Cure's version seems disjointed. The words are sad and so is the basic tune (?), but then the keyboard parts seems happy and popish (?). The video seems also so sad, and the band so emo, so the "happy" sounding parts seem to stick out like sore thumbs to me. The version done by 311 is more consistent. The flow is more seemless. Its easy going all the way through and although its sad there seems to be a hope.
