Sarah Mae Week Four

Week Four Assignments

The ten songs I picked for prompt one are the ones I would've selected for the other three as well, so I have included extra details for all the prompts below:

Oh, I Wish I Was ...

John Jacob Jingleheimerschmidt

P1:Originally, both favorite camp songs when I was in Girl Scouts (yeah, I know - now it all makes sense right?) - these songs became my all time favorites to sing with my kids when they were little. There just a couple of those tunes you can sing at the top of your lungs with the windows rolled down at a traffic light to illicit laughter - both inside and outside the car.

P2:I think these reflect who I am because I can be awfully silly - which, I'm told is going to lend itself to being an elementary school teacher.

Crocodile Rock

P1:This will always be a favorite because I danced to it during middle school with all my friends. We had frequent school-sponsored dances and it was a true crowd-pleaser!

Funkytown

P1:Another favorite dance song during my clubbing days...and yes, there were clubs...even back then!

P2:This one reflects who I am when I dance. Weird, but rhythmic.

I Can't Make You Love Me

P1:I'm not sure I can explain this song in a public forum but it suffices to say that it echoes a life-lesson I have found invaluable.

P3:Well, it goes without saying that my first "experience" wasn't what I thought it would be.

Over The Rainbow

P1:I love this rendition of over the rainbow by Patti Labelle. It touches me in ways that defies explanation but sums up the energy I hope to be able to generate in my own life.

P2:This one describes me because I remain an optimist despite the negative experiences I have had in life.

P4:My favorite cover song. There is another rendition as well by a Hawaiian artist that I love. Very fairy tale-like. Of course the original song comes from the movie, The Wizard of Oz and was sung by Judy Garland, but I love this version by Patti LaBelle. It's soulful.

You Raise Me Up

P1:This song, sung by Josh Groban speaks volumes about my husband. He lifted me up out of a very negative time in my life and has given me back the ability to believe in myself - which is why this song played when I walked down the aisle to marry him.

P2:I hope that this reflects who I am in addition to describing my husband as I try to remain a positive influence on the people around me.

Save The Best For Last

P1:The sentiments in this song have been true in my life a number of times. It seems a bit trite, but has been true for me, that it has always been darkest just before the dawn.

Your Body Is A Wonderland

P1 & 2:Need I say more?

Come What May

P1:This was also one of the songs in the context of our wedding. Not unlike the lovers in the movie, my husband and I feel it is our "secret song" to remind us that - regardless of what may happen, we're in it together.

P2:This song describes how I try to approach my life, knowing that regardless of what transpires, I can move through it.

I love Come What May and I love that movie. Good choice! I really like most of your songs actually. --Jess

Week Four Blogs

Blog 1: 2-1-07 I enjoyed yesterday's seminar. I thought it had a really positive, forward paced rhythm. I am looking forward to what the music group will program for us to do this week and participating in the continuation of our group process.

I must agree Sarah, I feel much more charged after our meeting this week 1/31/07. Feels like we actually have direction now and I feel more compelled to continuing modifying the Wiki in my free time! .:Kris:.

I have enjoyed reading everyone's blogs from last week. I love Caitlin's crazy cat pictures! Too funny. Thanks to all of you who have embraced my contributions and to those of you who continue to inspire me with your wordsmithery. Both are appreciated.

Blog 2: 2-1-07 So! The music group has tossed the first gaunlet down and I have to attempt to find ten of my favorite tunes eh? Well, then - I'm going to give it my best shot - to coin a phrase - but it may get noisy in the computer lab in the next few days!

Blog 3: 2-4-07 The music group has certainly created an interesting series of prompts. I have created my first list of ten - which was fun but challenging (more on the prompt blog about the process.) I am having trouble finding mp3's or midi files to go with them though - any suggestions of where to go for them? Ok, nevermind...I found them all on YouTube. I added links on my week four page and am beginning to compile my other 3 tonight. This has been alot of fun...an interesting search and also a new way to approach introspection.

I agree, it would be a really interesting project if we could get everyone involved. Do you want to buddy up for the prompt thing as well? --Jess

I'm glad you think we're on a roll...and I appreciate the invite to join you for the prompt thing - sounds good to me. :)

Blog 4:2-7-07 As I thought about the prompts and what songs I might select to meet the criteria, I realized that the initial ten songs that I chose would be the ones that I would point to so I increased the dialog with the ones I had already researched. When I selected the first ten, I was thinking about the course of my life and trying to choose songs that reflected my path, so, I suppose it shouldn't have surprised me that they would describe me, my sexuality and my favorite cover. That is pretty much the formula for a sum, adding up the columns and getting a total. So, not unlike a spreadsheet, all the data eventually adds up. Trite, I know, but true.

Very black and white, but I like it. .:Kris:.
