I am aware that it is riskier than a car, perhaps more aware than most, but I manage that risk and that's life. You can't live in a bubble, well you could, but that's not hardly livin, is it --Brian

Living- to not be dead, is both my first thought, as well as merriam websters. Plants, Animals, Fungi, Monera, and Protista are the five kingdoms and are all capable of being alive. Virus's on the other hand are not, namely because of their inability to reproduce via sexual intercourse. Sex is an experience that pulls someone into the moment, like riding a motorcycle to make a boorish analogy. Virus's also use others for their own selfish gains. People that use others cannot be livin, even if breath goes throughout their bodies. Livin contrasts death, the epoch in phlegmatic experience. Many people that are very depressed or experiencing grief feel like the living dead "Subjectively, survivors may feel like they are wrapped in a cocoon or blanket; to others, they may look as though they are holding up well. Because the reality of death has not yet penetrated awareness, survivors can appear to be quite accepting of loss," (Bereavement: Reactions, Consequences, and Care). This begs the question is it possible for there to be a type of living dead. The notion of zombies, dead individuals with a penchant for brains roaming the earth, seems to recall the idea of a virus. In 28 days Selena states the origin for the attack, "It was a virus. An infection. You didn't need a doctor to tell you that. It was the blood. It was something in the blood." Something this virus does is rob you of free will. Zombies, much like drug addicts, are forced to follow invisible string which control their actions, despite mental objection. On the other hand, the Zen Buddhist's have the word "Bohdi" which means "awakening". In short to come fully alive to the reality of the world around you. Master Xu Yun exclaims "Experience Chan! It's experiencing your own nature!/Going with the flow everywhere and always." This word Chan can be seen as akin to life. So giving into this flow, how is that different from giving into an addiction or zombial virus? The difference can be seen as one of mindset. Jesus claimed, "The kingdom of heaven is now," that heaven is the total enjoyment of life. He also purports a golden rule which supposedly contradicts zombie ethos. To, "love your neighbor as yourself," precludes your ability to do them harm, or eat their brains. It is my understanding that eating live monkey brains is a delicacy in some eastern countries. I'd have to imagine this can be an experience of excitement. Also the movie Hostel is about people that torture others to death for the experience of it. Therefore I put forth there can be high level experiences of both positive, saving someones life, and negative, murdering someone, nature. Such things call bring out moral judgments. Nietzsche states, "Human history would be a dull and stupid thing without the intelligence furnished by its impotents....by radically inverting all their values, that is," (Genealogy of Morals). Therefore it is a bias of the age to deter weather some peak human experience is a positive or negative one, or how it relates to the individual preforming it. Values might invert to the point that there is no longer a list of commandments to determine positive or negative experiences. Also if I were forced to murder a relative of mine, against my will of course, would I not likely have that image burned in my mind for the remainder of my life? Would I not be more alive, then say an enjoyable experience, perhaps a intoxicated Ménage à trois on spring break that I would have at best a fuzzy memory of after the fact. Does memory plan a part in the creation of being alive. "Peak experiences are those moments, lasting from seconds to minutes, during which we feel the highest levels of happiness, harmony and possibility. They range in degree from intensifications of everyday pleasure, to apparently 'supernatural' episodes of enhanced consciousness which feel qualitatively distinct from, and superior to, normal experience" (Abraham Maslow). The original term "livin" would seem best suited for something akin to normal experience, since that is the normal state of being alive.
